Now that you got all the other supplies, which hamster do you get?!

Now, you have to make sure the hamster is friendly. Does he bite? Did he slink away and hide when the owner or pet store person reached in the cage? Is the pet store assistant afraid to pick one or more up? If any of these apply, do not get this hamster. Being a little shy is fine though as he doesn't know you. Also, make sure you and your ham connect.

You should always choose a healthy hamster. Check his nose, is it runny? Look at his eyes are they shiny and healthy looking? Check his rear, does it have feces on or around it? Does he have any injuries? Look for any other things you think should be checked. Does he seem to be a healthy ham? If so, this hamster is good to keep, if not, avoid this hamster. If there appears to be a sick one, be cautious that one or more of the others in the sick one's cage may also be sick but not appear to be yet.

Okay, do you want a male or female? One or two? If you're getting just one a male or female would do just fine. If you want two, but not to breed, two females is best. If you do want to breed you'll need a male and female. How to tell if it's a male or female? Just wander on over to the Male or Female section of Sugar & Nimbus's Hamster Page!
