What can your hamster do and not do?

Do's

1) Spend alot of time with your hamster everyday.

2) Change your hamster's food and water everyday.

3) Give your hamster plain, unscented toilet paper for his nest.

4) Take out any spoiled food or wet bedding every day.

5) Once every week clean out your hamsters cage with warm water. Dry it thoroughly. Put in fresh bedding. Aspen is alright. Pine or cedar is NOT okay.

6) Clean your hamsters food dish and water bottle once every week with warm water. Don't forget to refill.

7) Give your hamster little treats about 3 times a week.

8) You can give your hamster little amounts apples, lettuce, and washed berries.

9) Keep other pets and small children away from your hamster.

10) Give your hamster safe toys.

11) If your hamster is sick, take it to the vet.

Don'ts

1) Don't give your hamster cedar or pine bedding. This can cause respiratory problems or death. Aspen is better.

2) Don't give your hamster oranges or other citrus fruits. These are also bad for him.

3) Don't give your hamster a bath. Try giving him Chinchilla Sand.

4) Don't leave fruits, vegetables, or other spoilable foods in your hamster's cage for more then a day.

5) Don't leave the door open at any time or any other part of the cage. Your hamster may escape or something may get at him or get into his cage.

6)  Don't drop your hamster or leave his ball with him in it on a high place. Hamsters do not have the best eyesight and if left on a high place while in his ball he will likely roll off and hurt himself.

7) Don't give your hamster fruits or anything sugary. This includes peas, corns, and carrots.

8) Kaytee is not a good brand because it is loaded with sugar.

9) Hamsters cannot be given tomatoes or peanut butter.
